Gentle December: Winter Self-Care Tips
03. Dezember 2025
During the winter months, many patients experience that their body responds particularly well to rest, gentle routines and targeted preparation before or after surgical procedures. Our team has put together five practical winter self-care tips that can support healing and overall wellbeing.
1. Strengthen your immune system before procedures
- Sufficient sleep and vitamins support the body during healing.
- Integrate vitamin C and zinc daily.
- Stay well hydrated to stabilise your immune system.
- Reducing sugar and alcohol helps reduce strain on the immune system.
2. Why winter is ideal for surgeries
- Lower UV radiation protects fresh scars.
- Thicker clothing makes it easier to hide compression garments during recovery.
3. Fresh scars & winter care
- In winter, a slightly richer cream can support scar healing.
- Avoid direct heat sources such as hot water bottles or sauna on fresh scars.
4. Winter vs. post-operative swelling
- Cold can feel soothing – but never apply ice directly to the skin.
- Always wrap cool packs in a cloth to prevent frostbite.
- After cooling, allow the skin to rest briefly.
- Avoid extreme temperature changes (outdoors – indoors) when possible.
5. Gentle movement after surgery
- Walks stimulate circulation.
- Gentle stretching is allowed – but no strain on the operated area.
- No intense workouts until medically approved.
- Frequent short, slow movements are better than long sessions.
Small adjustments in winter can significantly support your recovery and help you feel more balanced during the colder months.
