We would like to inform you on the topic “Breast Implant Illness” (BII). Currently, we receive many inquiries from patients from all over Germany, who are looking for help. Currently, there is no clear medical evidence for the existence of this disease, as the relationship between the symptoms and the silicone implants could not be finally clarified. Nonetheless, more and more patients are reporting with complaints that have occurred after the implantation of silicone implants.

Breast reconstruction after breast cancer
There are different reasons for the absence of one breast such as congenital malformations, diseases or accidents that caused the loss of a breast. Only very few women resign themselves to such a fate. If prostheses to be used in pocketed lingerie are not an option for you, you could consider surgical breast reconstruction. Almost always, the reconstruction of both breasts is also feasible. The choice of procedure depends on various factors and is always decided on a case-by-case basis.

Inverted nipple
Dorsal warts are mainly an aesthetic problem and are associated with no medical complications. You can cause problems when breastfeeding, if the warts do not straighten up and the infant food intake is difficult. If an outward-facing nipple changes to be permanently inward (“confiscation”), this may be an indication of the presence of breast cancer and is usually the cause of further investigation.

Breast correction
Women with congenital malformations of the breast are seeking breast correction that will allow them to feel beautiful and attractive. Such corrections are feasible for all types of malformations but they require a lot of experience and expertise on the part of the surgeon. In many of these cases, a simple augmentation of the breast is not sufficient, and the breast has to be fully reconstructed. This can also be done at the Park-Klinik Birkenwerder/Berlin.

Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is the propagation of mammary gland tissue in men. These enlarged breasts are usually distressing for the men affected and have a negative impact on their self-confidence. Prior to a surgical intervention, the surgeon first has to make sure that the respective case is a genuine case of gynecomastia and not an accumulation of fat that can develop in overweight or obese men. Even in a genuine case, several other treatment options will be attempted initially. A removal is only justified, once all of them have failed and the patient is significantly suffering from his enlarged breasts.
